Volunteer Companion Program
The Volunteer Companion Program features weekly, two hour visits with a trained and screened volunteer who is matched with a client experiencing early to mid-stage dementia. The friendly visits offer socialization, engagement and enjoyment to the person with dementia and respite time for the caregiver.
Hours are flexible, and all volunteers are trained and screened before being matched with a client. These friendly visits could include any number of activities such as:
- Going for coffee
- Playing games
- Having a chat
The Volunteer Companion Program is available to individuals in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, who reside in their own home (including retirement home) or the home of a caregiver.
*Due to the high demand for this program, there is currently a 6-8 month waiting list for a Volunteer Companion match.
PLEASE NOTE: Clients must be registered and undergo a brief assessment with a Social Worker to determine appropriateness for program prior to participation. To register as a client, please contact our Intake Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or 519-680-2404 ext. 224.
